In June there are two sets of papers: 1P/2P and 1PR/2PR, sat in different regions. They are different papers, so their boundaries differ. Grades 3, 2 and 1 are also in the source documents.

How to read these numbers

Across the 3 series in the table, the grade 9 boundary ranged from 134 to 143 out of 180. Boundaries move from series to series because each set of papers is different: a harder paper has a lower boundary.

The boundary is the minimum total mark for the grade. To see where you stand, add up your marks on a full set of papers from the same syllabus and compare the total with the boundaries for that series and variant.

Exam tip

Do not aim for last year's boundary. Aim for a margin above it: boundaries change with every set of papers. Marks are often lost on units, missing working and misreading the question, so practise those as well as the physics or maths.
