How the tutoring works

Most tutors teach the syllabus. An examiner teaches the mark scheme. I know precisely where marks are awarded— and where able students lose them. It is rarely on understanding; more often it is on how an answer is set out. My students learn to present their reasoning the way the person marking it is instructed to reward. In most years, that is the difference between a 6 and a 7.

I teach Physics and Mathematics — both Analysis & Approaches and Applications & Interpretation — personally, at IB Diploma and MYP level, alongside IGCSE and International A-Level. Physics is the subject I actively examine. For other subjects, such as Chemistry, Biology, Economics and English, I introduce families to a small circle of trusted colleagues, several of them examiners, whom I have vetted personally. Every subject is covered — but I teach personally only where I can offer genuine examiner-level insight.

Lessons are live and one to one, held online over Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. They are scheduled around your child's time zone rather than mine — I currently teach students from Dubai to Sydney. Every lesson is prepared individually for the student; there are no group classes and no pre-recorded modules.

Physics and Mathematics are taught personally by Evan Kotronis — an active IB Physics examiner with twenty years' teaching experience, seventeen of them with IB students. In other subjects, tutoring is delivered by a small, personally vetted circle of experienced IB educators, several of whom are examiners themselves.

Both. My focus is the IB Diploma and MYP, but I also prepare students for IGCSE and International A-Level Physics and Mathematics. The examiner's approach — knowing exactly how each board awards marks — applies across all of them.

Honestly, no tutor can guarantee a grade. What I can do is close the specific, recurring gaps that cost marks — imprecise definitions, working that does not show what the mark scheme requires, misread command terms. I know precisely where marks are awarded. Most students I work with are already capable; my role is to convert that capability into marks.

Tuition is priced as a premium, one-to-one service that reflects examiner-level expertise and a deliberately small student roster. Fees are discussed during your initial consultation, once I understand your child's level and goals. The consultation itself is free and carries no obligation.

Lessons are booked and paid for in advance, in blocks of hours rather than week by week. New families usually begin with a small starter block; thereafter, most work in ten-hour blocks, renewed as needed. Payment is currently by bank transfer, Revolut or Wise, with secure card payment being introduced. Any unused hours are refundable in line with the terms we agree at the outset.

Deliberately few. Because every lesson is one to one and fully prepared, I keep the roster small so each student has my full attention. Places for each cohort are limited, and I take on new students only where I can commit to them properly.

Every student begins with a short consultation. It is free and commits you to nothing; it exists so I can understand where your child stands and be honest about whether I am the right person to help. Lessons can be rescheduled or cancelled with at least 24 hours' notice at no charge. This lets me offer the time to another student and keeps scheduling fair for everyone.

No. I am a member of the teaching staff at Athens College, and as a matter of professional ethics I do not take its students for private tuition. To do so would place me in a conflict of interest with my school and my colleagues.
